The Barona Education Grant program is the first of its kind in California created and administered by a Tribal Government. The program has equipped 689 schools with hundreds of computers, thousands of books, iPads, computer software programs and various other technologies and school supplies. Since the Barona Education Grant program was launched in 2006, Barona has awarded over $3.4 million to California schools statewide. "Our Tribe is proud to award this grant money to ensure each student has an opportunity to learn the basics about robotics and put them on a pathway for future success in the fields of science and technology." "The faculty at Hawking strive to provide students with experiences to ignite their curiosity and prepare them to solve real world challenges," said Chairman Romero. Barona Tribal Chairman Edwin "Thorpe" Romero presented the $5,000 check to Principal Laura Carbajal, faculty and students. The grant was sponsored by California State Senator Ben Hueso. Located in San Diego, the school prepares students for college and career readiness through an integrated project-based STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, the Arts and Mathematics) curriculum that includes social emotional awareness. 19, 2018 /PRNewswire/ - The Barona Band of Mission Indians has awarded Hawking STEAM Charter School 2 a $5,000 Barona Education Grant for seven new robotics kits.
